Welcome to the Other Music Page of Rainlore's World of Music. This page deals with all types of music not already encompassed by existing categories on this site, and is very much an "occasional" page.
2004/11/24 Due to ongoing severe health issues and complications, regrettably no updates could be posted for some considerable time now, and it's taken up till now to even get someone to post this note for me. There is a considerable backlog of reviews that are either ready, almost ready, or were still in preparation when I got too ill to continue. These will be posted as soon as I'm well enough to attend to these matters again. Apologies all round.
Could I please ask everybody to hold all email, especially requests for reviews etc., until "normal sevice" is resumed. I'm really in no condition yet to attend to any amount of email, and there is a backlog of some 1,000 messages already. I'll try and deal with these as soon as my condition permits, but please, don't add to this backlog if possible.
"I'll be back" - ASAP.

More computer problems, including the best part of two weeks offline, have unfortunately delayed this update further. (A proper replacement computer is now being sought, and then a few weeks will be taken up installing applications and migrating data - argh! The joys of computers!) Alas a temporary "migration" from home was also necessitated by a major utilities crisis and resultant lack of heating and cooking (still no proper heating, if at least electric cooking of sorts now).
While some long overdue artists' profiles had to wait yet again (the drafts are still awaiting retrieval from a dieing hard disk), there's a whole bunch of long overdue album reviews at least, with more to follow very shortly now.
Wolf Krakowski's extraordinary English language singer-songwriter album Unbounded is definitely not to be missed! While perhaps better known for his contemporary bluesy interpretations of traditional Yiddish songs, Krakowski here presents a collection of fine originals in his own inimitable style. A young singer-songwriter talent definitely to look out for is Lenka Lichtenberg, whose debut album Deep Inside and 2003's Open The Gate are reviewed here. A big-hearted and gifted singer both of traditional Yiddish as well as Ladino material and her own original material, Ms. Lichtenberg's albums are a delightful blend of traditional Yiddish and contemporary singer-songwriter and world music styles.

If you're even vaguely into chansons and cabaret song, don't miss this week's review of the fabulous Alexandra Yaron's stunning album, "Irgendwo Auf Der Welt...", and most of all, don't miss this incredible performer!

A few more album reviews. If the blues, R&B, folk-rock, country-rock, and reggae, or for that matter singer-songwriter, are your kind of thing, you really can't afford to miss having at least a look at Wolf Krakowski's extraordinary albums, Transmigrations and Goyrl: Destiny. Krakowski, whose credits include playing with late Delta Blues legend Big Joe Williams, takes traditional Yiddish songs and re-interpretes them in a modern blues-based idiom that combines blues, R&B, folk-rock, country-rock, reggae and Latin flavours in his own inimitable style. Also not to be missed is CeiliZemer's soundtrack for the documentary movie Shalom Ireland. CeiliZemer combines Irish ceili music and Eastern European Jewish klezmer music, with stunning results.

To get things started, a couple of album reviews of some extraordinary Hip Hop by HH genius and percussion wizard The Amazing Assaf. You'll almost certainly be damned if you miss out on these amazing albums, and damned if you don't at least check them out! The AA is working hard on putting the finishing touches to his very latest album, out shortly and also to be reviewed here as soon as it comes off the presses.
More soon.
Generally, reviews feature CD albums, but they are by no means limited to CD releases. Previews and live performances, and even the odd demo, will also be covered as and when opportunities present themselves. Also, reviews are not necessarily of the latest releases only, rather, I aim to generally cover the best of what's around and that will often include reviews of older releases. Also, there is a page listing all CD reviews available on Rainlore's World of Music, and another one listing all live music reviews.
